Great thanks to our Religious Education Advisory Board for their tireless care and efforts on behalf of the children in Religious Formation. We have fortunately just hired a new 7-8th grade Coordinator, and are able to begin classes for those grades on time. However, we do not yet have a Director of Religious Education (K-6). In response, our Advisory Board members came together and responded most generously with their time, talent, and service!
The Advisory Board was able to put together a team of volunteer grade level coordinators for grades K-6; this team will meet with the catechists in the next few weeks, and the catechists will contact parents with information about class assignments. The children will receive their textbooks from their teachers on the first day of class.
Religious Education classes for grades K-6 will begin the week of Nov. 5th this year. Classes will be on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. We had to eliminate Wednesday classes because very few requested that day. They will be reassigned to another day, after consultation with parents.
Reasons for delaying the start of classes
(1) To give our new volunteer grade level coordinators time to schedule and meet with the catechists before classes begin.
(2) To recruit some still needed catechists, and prepare their student lists and assignments.
(3) To reassign children into another class when their preferred day or time had no catechist availability, and to notify parents of changes.
(4) To allow the coordinators and catechists time to revise class calendars where needed.
Fr. Joe Rossi and I are most grateful for the leadership and response the Advisory Board is offering in this transition time in our parish. May the loving kindness of the Lord Jesus continue to guide and sustain us.
