As part of the Archdiocesan response to the scandal of sexual abuse of children in the Church, the Archdiocesan Office of Child Advocacy, Implementation and Oversight has launched an annual mandatory program that focuses on teaching children basic skills that will help keep them safe in a variety of situations. The curriculum is based on national child safety programs, adapted to incorporate and embrace the message of our Catholic faith to love God, others, and ourselves.
All children will participate in the safety program, Keeping Children Safe. Classes will be held in January for grades K-6. This program will be led by trained facilitators and will help children recognize appropriate and inappropriate contact with adults and help them develop the skills to communicate with parents and caregivers.
Parents may elect to have their child not attend these sessions. (not recommended)
