About St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish
Saint Catherine of Alexandria Parish, located in the rural Nix Settlement area south of Columbia City, Indiana, is a small but vibrant Catholic community with deep pioneer roots. Founded in the mid-1800s by early settlers of the Nix family, the parish began as a gathering of faithful Catholics who celebrated Mass in homes and early log structures before a permanent church was established.
The parish has remained in its present location since the late 1800s, continuing a long tradition of worship, prayer, and community life in the heart of Whitley County. Surrounded by farmland and close-knit rural communities, St. Catherine’s has long been a place where faith is lived simply and faithfully across generations.
Today, St. Catherine of Alexandria remains a welcoming parish home for Catholics from Columbia City and the surrounding area. Rooted in tradition yet still active in parish life, the community continues to gather for worship, seasonal devotions, and shared fellowship throughout the year.
Our parish mission
At Saint Catherine of Alexandria Parish, our mission is to grow together as a community of faith centered in the Eucharist. Through prayer, the sacraments, and service to others, we seek to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ and share His love with our neighbors.
